A Warm Welcome to the Balkans: 48th CEC Macedonia

Group photo from the 48th CEC in Popova Shapka, Macedonia.

For the very first time, the Central European Convention made its way to Macedonia, and it couldn’t have been more magical. From May 10 to 12, 2024, over 100 IAESTE members from across the region gathered in Popova Shapka, a quiet mountain village nestled in the Šar Mountains. With stunning landscapes, lively workshops, and unforgettable moments, the 48th CEC proved that the Balkans were more than ready to host this special event.

Learning with a View

The weekend kicked off with fresh mountain air and a warm welcome from our hosts. And while the scenery was spectacular, the real action happened in the workshops. From hands-on sessions for newcomers to deeper discussions on growth and development, there was something for everyone.

Some standout sessions included:

  • Exchange for Newbies, a perfect introduction to IAESTE Exchange for our newest members,
  • CER Development, a strategic deep dive into how we can grow stronger together,
  • Confidence and Positive Thinking, because growth starts from within.

Led by both junior and senior workshop leaders, each session brought fresh perspectives, new tools, and the kind of energy that only happens when passionate people come together.

A Night to Remember: International Night

International night

It wouldn’t be a proper IAESTE convention without International Evening, and Macedonia made sure this one stood out.

The room turned into a festival of flavors, with traditional snacks, drinks, and cultural pride on display from every corner of Central Europe. Tables overflowed with food, laughter echoed through the halls, and friendships formed over shared stories and national dances.

Whether it was your first taste of ajvar or your tenth round of the IAESTE Dance, it was an evening that captured everything this community stands for diversity, connection, and fun.

Wrapping Up in Skopje

To close out the weekend, many participants joined the Post-Conference Tour to Skopje, North Macedonia’s capital. From wandering the Old Bazaar and crossing the Stone Bridge to taking in the views from the Millennium Cross, it was a beautiful way to end an already unforgettable trip.

It gave everyone the chance to unwind, explore, and reflect on the friendships and ideas they were taking home.

Thank You, IAESTE Macedonia!

A massive thank you goes out to the entire team at IAESTE Macedonia for pulling off their very first CEC with such grace, energy, and care. Every detail, from the logistics to the hospitality, made us feel right at home.

As we look back on Popova Shapka, we’re also looking forward to the next gathering, new memories, and the continued growth of our amazing community.

But for now, thank you, IAESTE Macedonia, for an experience we’ll never forget.
